Roots of Ruchill - Community Garden

Maryhill HA worked with local organisations (including Ruchill Community Council, North United Communities and Children’s Inclusion Partnership) to secure funding for a community garden. The funding transformed the vacant and neglected land beside Ruchill Community Centre into a local community garden with raised beds, a picnic table, seating area and fruit trees.   Local school children designed the logo and named it ‘Roots of Ruchill Community Garden.’

The community garden provides a much welcomed place for local people to participate in gardening, grow food, as well as using the enjoying the green space as somewhere to socialise and relax.  The project won the Evening Times Street Ahead Award in 2013 & 2014 for Best Community Garden. Local residents, school children, local mothers group and local days centre are all using the garden and looking for ways to develop it further.
